Google G1 Phone
Chris Gray - Oct 21, 2008 10:57:45am
Today, Oct 22, the Google G1 phone was released. Unfortunately its only available to T-Mobile customers, but by end of year, there will be a Sprint version. No one is sure how long after a Verizon and AT&T versions will arive.

The G1 is an amazing phone not because of the hardware, but because of the Open Handset alliance software installed on it called "Android". Google Purchased android from another company 2 years back, and has been developing for it ever since.

Last year they created a $20 million dollar contest for developers to create the best mobile applications. The G1 was develop on the JAVA VM. And all applications are sandboxed. The phone does allow developers to have processes run in the background, which the Apple iPhone does not. So java developers will be pleased. The platform is completely open, and plans for a C++, Perl, Ruby, PHP, versions are rumored to be released in the next year.
